Art in Progress: Packet House week 1
There is a cool old house in Little Rock that I have always wanted to paint. At some point it happened & the finished product was way too bright. Go ahead & think that over... if you are at all familiar with my work you likely know that the level of color saturation in my art either lights people up or they are horrified by it. If I say it is too bright it is TOO BRIGHT. So leaving it on the canvas didn't seem like the right thing to do. So I didn't. Finished product coming soon.

Art in Progress: Truth
I have enjoyed selling this print more than just about any other, due in large part to the stories I hear from the people buying them. It isn't a traditional fairy tale but you can't really expect a traditional fairy tale from a woman who as a child, wanted to be a ballerina & drive a red garbage truck. Here's to all of the strong, brave, smart, independent little girls out there who are writing their own fairy tales. Matted prints available here.

Feature Art Friday: The Lobster
I'm getting things ready for the first art sale I have been involved with, so there has been more painting & less blogging over here lately. The lack of posting isn't tied directly to the increase in painting, it's more closely related to the paralyzing fear I am periodically feeling with regard to standing in a room full of strangers, not really knowing how the art will be received. It's difficult to type with clenched hands. I'm also (believe it or not) an introvert, which makes the art sale even more daunting.
I spoke to 3 of my art friends about it last night. Two of them are introverts & it made me feel a little better to hear a story about an incredibly talented artist who literally hid behind his art at his first sale. Another amazingly talented artist is an introvert who paints in such a large format that I almost wonder if part of the purpose in the large scale is to keep people back. Now that I think about it, it seems less likely that you would have to carry on a one-on-one conversation with someone when they are standing 20 feet away to take in the beauty of your work. She's one smart "art lady" as my boys call her. The third friend involved in the conversation is such an extrovert that he seems baffled by the idea of strangers in general. He doesn't ever seem to meet a stranger & is one of the most friendly & open people I have ever met. I'm somewhat envious of his people skills & open heart. There is so much learn to from them all & I'm grateful to have them in my life... & I'll be even more grateful when they are taking turns talking me out from under the table at the sale next month.

Feature Art Friday: Hydrant
No... I have no idea what possessed me to paint a fire hydrant. Or to paint it pink, for that matter.

You are my sunshine
This is the finished product of one of the small canvases shown here. It is only 4" x 4". Wee bitty art.

Feature Art Friday: Up and Away
This was so much fun to paint- it reminded me for the hot air balloon festival we went to last summer You can see the photos here & here. In case you wonder about the white in the paintings that always disappears under a layer, it helps me figure out what color to make the actual subject matter of the painting. I can't just paint a red hot air balloon on top of all of the crazy layers of color. So I use a lot of boring white paint. You just usually don't see it in the end result. Prints available in 5x5 and 8x8.

Feature Art Friday: The Broadway Bridge
The morning commute is more interesting when there are cool architectural details to photograph while sitting in traffic. I love this old bridge.
