Woof, Wag & Wine 2012

Please join me at a fundraiser for my very favorite animal rescue organization, 'Out of the Woods'. Every penny from the ticket sales & the silent auction goes to this amazing non-profit & 100% will be used for the vet bills, food, etc. of homeless animals who have a temporary placement while waiting on their forever home. I'm donating art & looking forward to good food, good drinks & good company. Hope to see you there.

Feature Art Friday: If I lived in a cartoon...

...which I don't, but if I did- this is what it would look like. You know you have a big crush on being home from a trip when you are drawing pictures of home. While sitting in it.

My favorite place

My very favorite thing about going on a trip is always coming home. Seeing my family, sleeping in my own bed, seeing my pets... No matter how great the trip, the best part- the very best part, is always walking in the door at home.

Feature Art Friday: Woodland Wild Things

The squirrel, raccoon & turtle were special orders for a woman who is opening a brick & mortar shop in Little Rock. She saw the birdies in my Etsy shop & wanted to order some other animals commonly seen in Arkansas. Because I grew up in the country, I've seen my fare share of all three of these... although even living in town I have a yard full of squirrels. It seems that some sort of squirrel super highway runs through the pine trees in my backyard- I can sit outside in the summer & here them all cursing at each other high above my head. Apparently road rage happens everywhere- even in my trees.

My double life

Just a few things going on in my world this week... between the 'Big Girl Job' as a friend calls it & the art-making. (it's hard to call the art-making a job because it's so much fun.) As I was walking up the front steps of the state capitol yesterday for a meeting I was literally thinking. "should I paint that bearded dragon blue or purple?" and it really hit me that I seem to live a double life. Just don't expect me to do any Mission:Impossible or James Bond stunts. I might pull something & not be able to paint.

On the best afternoons

On the best afternoons, I race home after work & take paints, brushes, canvas & Maisy out onto the deck.
I will admit there are entire days that I spend more time than I should painting in my head.
It seems that the sun starts dropping faster the minute I pick up a brush.
Sometimes it slips away so quickly that I realize it's time to stop- and then my heart slips a little too.
Until I remember that I can do it again tomorrow & until then I'll just have to make do with painting in my head.

Come paint with me

Remember when I told you that I have a second job? A job that is so much fun that I feel a little silly that someone actually pays me for it? It was that day I was telling you about that smarty pants Carl Jung... Anyway, maybe you should come check out my second job & see for yourself. This is the painting I am teaching this Thursday night at Painting with a Twist. The two hour classes are only $35 & you will leave with a 16x20 painting of your very own. If you don't like this particular painting, you might check out the calendar & come on another day- there are 5 artists & everyone is very talented. You can bring food & drinks- even beer or wine. I have so much fun showing people who come in the door telling me that they CAN'T paint that they actually can.

I know what you are thinking... & yes, you can!!
